Educational Goals

The general educational goal of the show is simple: we want to help facilitate the social and emotional development of young children.

Our experienced team of child development and children’s education specialists have overseen every aspect of the show’s writing and production so far, making sure we’re producing content that best supports this goal.  Everyone involved has done extensive research and training to insure that the programming we provide is developmentally appropriate and supportive for children from ages 2 and up, with our specific focus being on the very important pre-K ages of 3-5.  A breakdown of the general goal is as follows: increasing emotional literacy and the development of feelings-based language, demonstrating age-appropriate social skills, and fostering an informed and respectful outlook on the environments young children are learning to navigate.

All Aboard will always base its work around the principles of play- based learning, following the teachings of early child development specialists such as Erika Christakis, Jean Piaget, Christia Brown, Erik Erikson, Alison Gopnik, and, of course, Fred Rogers and Margaret McFarland.  The educational aspects will be child-centric, with any academics or specific skills taught being built into experiences, first and foremost.  Even if the purpose of learning was to increase college-readiness or test scores, which we here All Aboard with Ms. Kelly would object to on principle, research has shown time and time again that academic-based learning alone has adverse effects on a child’s test score after the first grade when not combined with at least some aspect of play-based learning.
